Day 7: San Diego- Big ships and even bigger pancakes

So we had every intention of waking up early after our room service night last night and hitting up San Diego at the break of day…trouble is we didn’t wake up until 9am. Damn those blackout curtains are good!

Feeling rested and hungry we went on the breakfast hunt once again. We found the famous Cafe 222 and put our name down for a table. With a 30 minute wait we got free banana bread and Bowen got free coffee which I had to get for her as she was too scared to ask! This time for brekkie we went for something a little sweeter and shared a huge stack of blueberry pancakes and some waffles with fruit and yogurt. Future Sophie if you are reading this- always remember to pick the pancakes. Waffles are never worth it!

Feeling far too full we explored the Gaslamp district which is a bit of a tourist Mecca but it had an Urban Outfitters so we can’t complain too much really! After a quick shop around the plaza- Bowen brought a hat and now everyone stares at her because she looks like an idiot….really she looks very lovely, we headed back to the harbour and boarded that big boat we saw on our stroll yesterday.

Turns out that the big boat has a name- The USS Midway and is the number one thing to do in San Diego. This is not the type of thing that either of us would normally do at all but we spend a good few hours onboard exploring all of the different areas and the size of it is crazy! It can fit 5000 people on who are all there to support the pilots. I don’t know how I would do without windows for so long!!!

Highlights were going below deck, into the rooms where real wartime decisions were made and climbing into some of the planes. The are so many nobs to turn and buttons to press and seats to eject out of. We had a blast!

Looking far too comfortable with a plane steerer inbetween our legs 😉

We get off the boat and head back to our hotel which is just across the street and have a bit of chill time to catch up with the blog, and we nearly go for a swim but we didn’t want to get our hair wet!

We make ourselves pretty again for dinner and head to Little Italy- which is 100% our favourite area of anywhere that we have visited yet- and find a table at Bencotto. The food is insanely good, who knew that pumpkin and amaretto would work so well together!?! We also realise that this is our first proper sit down meal and my first glass of wine! May it be one of many!

After dinner and feeling far too full once again we take a stroll through Little Italy and quickly decide that we could both live here. It actually seems like a proper area, anyone that has been to LA will know what I mean when I say that there are no proper areas there! A definite place to visit should you ever find yourselves in SD! That is a tip from Blunt to you!

I really can’t believe that tomorrow is our last day in San Diego! We still have so much to see and do!
